On 11th and 12th of July, a group of 15 startups/projects and 26 guests from Melbourne gathered at Suzhou High-Tech District. Eleven startups were finalists of the Sunan Cup Startup Competition and four startups were invited for a business matching session.
After a day of competition on 12th, six of them were awarded prizes (listed in the first table). The other teams including the four business matching teams presented well and demonstrated high quality and market potentials based on the feedback from the organizer and judges. We have heard that some further business engagement and discussions with some projects have occurred. Good news is expected in the following weeks/months for our Melbourne startups.
A forum focusing on technology commercialization was successful held on the 11th. Speakers from Jiangsu, Suzhou, USA and Melbourne delivered informative presentations and discussions. Prof Laura Parry, Associate Dean of Faculty of Science from the University of Melbourne, presented at the forum on behalf of the Melbourne delegation.
After Suzhou, most of the delegates went to Shanghai and visited the Austrade Shanghai Landing Pad. The staff and startups at the Landing Pad provided valuable insight and information about the China Market to the Melbourne startups.
Dr Frank Fu and several ACASE advisors went to Beijing and had three constructive meetings with the Chinese Ministry of Education and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology. The relationships and calibrations in innovation and startups between Melbourne and Suzhou were highly recognized.
